Cameroon opened score at the 26th minute through Achile Webo’s corner kick which was poorly headed into the Egyptian net by their team captain A Hassan. Hassan him gave in an equalizer after he fired in a 32 meters short which aging Kameni under estimated, only to find it at the back of the net.
The score remain one goal each way till the end of the 90th minute. A match which the indomitable lions staged their best performance and dominate control all through for the first time since the beginning of this competition, but failed to score more goals even after a record 22 wasted corner kicks to their favor.
Despite the wonderful overall play by the Lions, the aging lions like goal man Kameni and Geremi Njitap were to be blamed for some unexpected errors that made the indomitable lions to roar like toothless lions.
Kameni failed to stop a ball he was expected to and it gave Egypt an equalizer, while Geremi’s poor back pass was a new year present for the Egyptians who utilize it to step a goal forward at the expense of Cameroon. Seems like a complete day for errors, as even central referee could not tell if a ball is over the base line or not, and still at the expense of Cameroon, accorded a third goal to Egypt that never crossed the base line. What a day?
Cameroon is out of the competition. What are the lessons to be learned before South Africa 2010 which is just months away. Has Le Guen just failed his first major test to become a true lion, or do we say Angola was used to correct the errors before South Africa. One thing is clear. The Lion fans are hungry for victory and trophies. This they deserve to get in South Africa. Let those concern start working the mathematics to achieve this.
