« Prix Goncourt Des Lycee » 2020 : President Maurice Kamto in admiration for Cameroonian Djaïli Amadou Amal

Author himself of an essay of very high philosophico-political significance, as well as numerous scientific works on law and international relations, the Cameroonian lawyer and politician, Maurice Kamto, published on Wednesday a text of tribute and congratulations to her compatriot Djaïli Amadou Amal, the Cameroonian writer who won the Prix Goncourt des Lycées 2020 on the same day.

The president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, who however reacted in a personal capacity, while he is still being held hostage with his family since the Paul Biya regime had his home surrounded on September 21, 2020 by squads of police officers and  gendarmes, was delighted with the distinction made to his compatriot, whose exemplary career he salutes, and to whom he wishes a well-deserved career. Deserved, as would also be the introduction of her novel  # »Les Impatientes » (Prix Goncourt des Lycéens 2020), among the textbooks on the program of high schools and colleges in Cameroon and Africa, or even elsewhere, already recipient of many other prizes. An introduction for which Maurice Kamto strongly pleads.

Below, Prof. Maurice Kamto’s reaction

LITERARY RECOGNITION OF DJAÏLI AMADOU AMAL

“ Our compatriot Djaïli Amadou Amal is once again honouring Cameroon. She won the Goncourt des Lycées 2020 prize today, after being a finalist in the Goncourt 2020 for her novel “Les impatientes”, published by Emmanuelle Colas in Paris. I extend my warmest congratulations to Djaïli Amadou Amal for this double historical recognition which does honour to Cameroon and more broadly to Africa. I am delighted with this dazzling distinction that puts a talented writer into orbit. By the exemplary nature of her career, rich in challenges and nourished by her determination to forge a destiny for herself, I believe I can say that Mrs. Djaïli Amadou Amal is a model for the women and youth of Cameroon and those of our continent. I wish Mrs. Djaïli Amadou Amal the beautiful literary career she deserves. I look forward to “Les impatientes” entering our official educational programmes. It would not be an undeserved tribute.”.
